So Motorauthority is reporting the new Miata is going to weigh 2250 lbs in japan spec and come with a 129 hp skyactive engine.
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
The FRS and its 200 hp says hi

No way
It must be trolling
![]() 09/11/2014 at 21:25 |

Bullshit.
![]() 09/11/2014 at 21:26 |

There's no way.
![]() 09/11/2014 at 21:26 |

LOL, no. Maybe in Japan, but not the states. I'm not amused. GTFO.
![]() 09/11/2014 at 21:27 |

DO NOT WANT ANYMORE
![]() 09/11/2014 at 21:27 |
|
Haha...Almost as likely as the mid-engine corvette rumor.

![]() 09/11/2014 at 21:28 |

What is this shit? This must be a joke. If that's true then Mazda just wants to out shit Toybaru. Okay i guess it's time to stock up on LS engines. If you want one, holler
![]() 09/11/2014 at 21:29 |
|
That's less power than my old Astra, which had 138hp and weighed 2882lbs. I understand that the Miata is light and all, But I don't want another car that has less than 150hp. So for the ND Miata, unless it gets forced induction in the future, for now, DO NOT WANT!!
![]() 09/11/2014 at 21:30 |
|
I'd hope Mazda would at least use their 2.0 SkyActiv that makes like 155 horsepower.
Anything less would be so disappointing. Especially because the current car has like 165 horsepower.
![]() 09/11/2014 at 21:31 |

It's not real!

![]() 09/11/2014 at 21:33 |

You never wanted it anyways. What you really want is the Porsche Karl!
![]() 09/11/2014 at 21:33 |
|
Is it not?
![]() 09/11/2014 at 21:34 |
|
You know it! Better than these lies and POS! How much horsepower does the Karl have anyway?
![]() 09/11/2014 at 21:34 |
|
Probably accurate for the base engine. IIRC the NC has a 125hp 1.8 in base spec elsewhere in the world with an engine North America doesn't get. I'd count on 155+ hp out of the 2.0 that we're getting (the same or similar to that in the current Mazda3).
![]() 09/11/2014 at 21:35 |
|
I don't see how a 7500rpm engine has 129hp.
![]() 09/11/2014 at 21:35 |
|
Definitely not.
![]() 09/11/2014 at 21:35 |
|
WHAT?!?! I CAN'T HEAR YOU OVER MY SUPERCHARGED V8.
![]() 09/11/2014 at 21:36 |
|
It's not that or it's modified. The rpm limit on the car in the gauge cluster is 7500 rpm. The 2.0 doesn't rev that high in any car in their lineup. So either it's that engine with cam and more stout internals or it's something else.
![]() 09/11/2014 at 21:38 |
|
Oh.....WELL IT BETTER HAVE MOR THAN 150HP!
![]() 09/11/2014 at 21:38 |
|
I'm betting 200+. It will be an amazing performance car.
![]() 09/11/2014 at 21:39 |
|
Most likely is real but equally likely is that it won't be an engine we'll see here. The NC has a similarly meagre base engine elsewhere in the world, a 125hp 1.8.
![]() 09/11/2014 at 21:39 |
|
That makes sense. America ain't got time for that.
![]() 09/11/2014 at 21:42 |
|
IT BETTER!!
![]() 09/11/2014 at 21:43 |
|
Why are you so concerned with it?! The only reason for your severe interest in every bit of news on this car is that you've already put down you deposit for it.
Good choice.
![]() 09/11/2014 at 21:49 |

The Karl is a new 944. It has the same turbo H4 that is going to be used in the future Boxster/Cayman.
How much power it has depends on how much you spend. There will be multiple versions:
Karl
Karl S
Karl GTS
Karl GT4
Power for each version is not set yet. The engine is capable of a lot of power. Porsche will calculate just how much power they can give each version without hurting sales of the more expensive cars. Classic Porsche...
This is the best part: the Karl is only available in RWD with Manuél :D
![]() 09/11/2014 at 21:50 |
|
LIES!! I have done no such thing!
![]() 09/11/2014 at 21:53 |
|
Definite BS. The Mazda3 2.0 SkyActiv makes 155HP, no doubt the Miata will make at least that.
![]() 09/11/2014 at 21:54 |
|
Want. Want! WANT!! GIVE ME NOW!!
![]() 09/11/2014 at 21:54 |
|
They're charging how much for this thing again?
![]() 09/11/2014 at 21:57 |
|
Me too! I want mine in blue.
![]() 09/11/2014 at 21:57 |
|
I don't see how they are using Skyactiv engines because of their high compression. I just don't see them being screamers.
![]() 09/11/2014 at 21:58 |
|
Still will have a better power/weight/freedom ration than any damn MX-5.
![]() 09/11/2014 at 22:00 |
|
There's only one way I can determine what color I want.
![]() 09/11/2014 at 22:01 |

Just speculation.
![]() 09/11/2014 at 22:02 |
|
How is that?
![]() 09/11/2014 at 22:03 |
|
Dat ass, I need a pic of it.
![]() 09/11/2014 at 22:04 |
|
I bet you've put a down payment on it. ;)
![]() 09/11/2014 at 22:06 |
|
Well here is the gauge cluster:
7500 RPM redline. If it's the 2.0 it must be altered slightly.
![]() 09/11/2014 at 22:07 |
|
:D
![]() 09/11/2014 at 22:07 |
|
I already have an awesome car!
But if I needed a new car for sub $30k, then Miata would be the way to go.
![]() 09/11/2014 at 22:07 |
|
It's probably not gonna have that much more than 200 HP
Because small and N/A 4 banger...
![]() 09/11/2014 at 22:09 |
|
That is the most boring modern gauge cluster I've ever seen.
![]() 09/11/2014 at 22:10 |
|
It's gonna be around the same power as the BRZ...with 400+lbs less weight to move around.
Did someone say...track day??

Can I haz a pic?
![]() 09/11/2014 at 22:11 |
|
Yeah! You don't need dat 2002 right now anyway. ;)
![]() 09/11/2014 at 22:13 |
|
IDK. Look at the FRS's. It's even more basic aside from LED speedo.
![]() 09/11/2014 at 22:14 |
|
UUUGHHHHH
![]() 09/11/2014 at 22:15 |
|
I actually don't mind that, especially since it is more enthusiast oriented. For those who are more worried about RPM than speed.
![]() 09/11/2014 at 22:16 |
|
Yes that is a good point.
![]() 09/11/2014 at 22:19 |

AMIRITE? ;)
RIGHT??

...........
WELL?? AM. I.

I thought Miata people liked low power output.
![]() 09/11/2014 at 22:37 |

Porsche hasn't let me see the concept yet
So this is all I can offer:
![]() 09/11/2014 at 22:38 |

It will be for AutoX
Track days are for real cars if there are big straights
Like the Z06

Oh nooo... Ohhh noooooo... Ohhhhh noooooooooo.
I haven't cared about any of the Miata hype until just now...

Exceeds my expectations. Good.

Lol :p
![]() 09/12/2014 at 06:13 |

They're not going to sell a 2.0 liter engine with 129 hp. You have to try pretty damn hard to make a 2.0 liter have less than 150 hp.
![]() 09/12/2014 at 06:35 |
|
No.
GLI is like...WAAYY down the list. It's barely on the list.
![]() 09/12/2014 at 06:37 |
|
Just hit play.
I hope the start time works. If not, skip to 6:16.
![]() 09/12/2014 at 06:38 |
|
No.
![]() 09/12/2014 at 06:40 |
|
Let's double both figures to get a better sense of the power to weight ratio we're talking about: a 4500 pound car with 258 hp.
![]() 09/12/2014 at 08:22 |
|
There are 4 Skyactiv engines, so the 1.5L is just base for non-micro cars. We will probably be getting the 2.0L which is good for 158 horses (and that's assuming Mazda doesn't do a special tune for the Miata 2.0L) or a 2.5L with 185 horses.

Have you seen this entire review yet? You had a 318, right? Do you agree?
ARE YOU A TOURING CAR DRIVER?!
![]() 09/12/2014 at 11:42 |
|
Had you seen that meme? I hadn't. I found it last night and laughed my ass off.
I watched the whole video. I had not seen. So awesome!
I agree. I wish I had the DOHC version. I had the first year of the E30. It was the SOHC 4 cylinder. Slower but still awesome.
![]() 09/12/2014 at 11:54 |
|
Yeah I've seen it, it's funny.
autocross or track day...

bro
![]() 09/12/2014 at 11:56 |
|
you need an E30!
![]() 09/12/2014 at 11:57 |
|
I'd rather a 2002!
![]() 09/12/2014 at 15:14 |
|
But you can't really afford a good 2002! Isn't the E30 cheaper?
![]() 09/12/2014 at 15:21 |
|
Like I keep saying, it's not a question of affordability, it's a question of space. I don't have anywhere to put it.
![]() 09/12/2014 at 15:25 |
|
but if it's cheaper you can use the savings to rent garage space by you!
![]() 09/12/2014 at 15:27 |
|
Hmmm that's true....I wonder how much a yearly spot is...
![]() 09/12/2014 at 15:49 |
|
time to look into it!
you can't say no because lazy because it has to do with getting another car!
![]() 09/12/2014 at 15:52 |
|
Yeah. Laziness pretty much disappears when it has to do with cars.
![]() 09/12/2014 at 15:53 |
|
You're even willing to manually shift with cars! Everything else you'd rather have automation.
![]() 09/12/2014 at 18:12 |
|
I'd take it. My '93's 1.6L was rated at 116 HP and it was complete fun to drive.
This '69 GTV was rated at 120 HP.
This '69 2002tii also had 120 HP.
This '14 V6 Camry has 268 HP.
You choose.
![]() 09/13/2014 at 01:01 |
|
Oh, hi. ~4400 lbs., 170 hp, 275 lb.-ft. of torque, 2.73:1 rear axle ratio.
![]() 09/13/2014 at 06:53 |
|
Look again; that's a 7200 or 7250 RPM redline.
![]() 09/15/2014 at 18:24 |
|
still it's not going to hard cut at that RPM. I'm sure it revs to at least 7500. Their other engines are at 6500 anyways so this is something different.
